  • Calm Canines is a mobile, in-home nail care service offering appointments in Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener, Fergus, and Rockwood. These locations fall within a 35km radius of the Calm Canines office.

Appointments outside this radius are subject to a $30 travel fee.

If you're unsure whether your area qualifies, please feel free to reach out—I’m happy to help.

  • Most dogs do best with nail care every 3–5 weeks, but every dog is different. Factors like age, walking surfaces, activity level, and nail growth rate all play a part.

Seniors, small dogs, and less active pups often need more frequent nail care to stay comfortable. Regular nail care keeps your dog moving well, reduces pressure on joints, and helps prevent long-term discomfort. I’m always happy to chat about the ideal maintenance plan for your dog.

  • Many dogs find nail care stressful — and that’s completely normal. Calm Canines uses a patient, cooperative care approach grounded in positive reinforcement, fear-free handling principles, and over 13 years of professional canine experience.

Sessions always move at your dog’s pace. Early visits may focus on gentle desensitization and trust-building, and some dogs benefit from starting with Comfort Sessions before progressing to a full nail care session. A gradual approach is a healthy and expected part of the process.

In some cases, additional support may be helpful. Short-term anti-anxiety medication prescribed by your veterinarian can reduce stress and make nail care more comfortable for certain dogs. Calm Canines does not prescribe or advise on medication, but I’m always happy to work collaboratively with your veterinary team if medication is part of your dog’s care plan.

The goal is never to rush or force nail care — it’s to support your dog’s emotional well-being and create a calm, sustainable experience over time.

  • A quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions works best. I will come with my kit, which includes a non-slip mat, some yummy treats, and options for our nail care session.

If your dog has treats they prefer or need for dietary concerns, they are always welcome for positive reinforcement.

  • You’re welcome to stay, but it’s not required. Many dogs relax more easily with fewer distractions.

As long as your dog is comfortable and you’ve provided safe access to your home, I can complete the appointment independently. You’ll receive an update afterward so you know how everything went.
