Pet First Aid Certification

A comprehensive, hands-on course designed by Walks n Wags to help you recognize and respond to common pet emergencies.

Learn how to assess your dog and cat, provide immediate care, and make informed decisions while seeking veterinary support.

You’ll learn how to:
• Recognize signs of illness, injury, and distress
• Respond to emergencies such as choking, wounds, and heatstroke
• Perform CPR and basic first aid techniques
• Safely transport your dog for veterinary care

Follows the Walks ‘N’ Wags Pet First Aid curriculum and includes certification valid for 3 years.

Off The Grid: Wilderness Pet First Aid Certification

3 hours

A hands-on course designed by Walks n Wags focused on caring for your dog in outdoor and remote environments.

Learn how to assess injuries, stabilize your dog, and make safe decisions when veterinary care may not be immediately available.

You’ll learn how to:
• Manage injuries in remote settings
• Handle environmental risks (heat, cold, terrain)
• Stabilize your dog for longer periods before help is available
• Prepare and pack essential first aid supplies for trips

Ideal for hikers, campers, and dogs who explore beyond the everyday.

Off The Grid is designed as a follow-up course and requires a current Pet First Aid certification to participate.

  • We support hands-on learning, and a small number of dogs may be able to attend each course. Participation is limited and based on suitability for the learning environment. Full details will be provided after registration.

  • This is a hands-on, full-day learning experience with a mix of instruction and practical skill work.

    Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on learning, as some portions involve getting up and down from the floor. You’re welcome to bring a notebook, as well as lunch and snacks for the day.

  • Pet First Aid is a full-day course (10 hours). Off The Grid is a shorter, focused course, running for 3 hours. Scheduled breaks are included.

  • Pet First Aid covers a wide range of common emergencies in everyday settings.

    Off The Grid builds on these skills with a focus on outdoor and remote situations where veterinary care may be delayed.

  • Some portions of the course involve getting up and down from the floor and practicing hands-on skills such as CPR. Participants are required to complete the practical components in order to successfully pass the course.
